A couple of years ago when I heard that I might be moving my family from northern Alberta to Vancouver Island, my first thoughts were, finally a location I can be inspired to shoot again. Fast forward a year and I began to realize that I too was subject to the human condition of familiarity and complacency. How could I still not be in awe of the surroundings God has so graciously planted me in? That’s a hard question to ask oneself, but a really easy question answer. Life so often has a way of carrying us along often without even noticing. Between marriage, kids, career and just the plain busyness of life, time passes. What I began to realize was that without intention, my life was feeling a bit aimless. Intention is something that causes an individual to stop and listen, to take notice of what’s right in front of you. Art is ultimately creative intention and through that intention the immaterial becomes material in one way or another. Often the enemy of creative intention is merely the fear of not being appreciated or even worse being criticized. This slithering serpent called fear is what holds so many of us back from simply just creating. Good or bad it really doesn’t matter. Let’s face it, there will always be better photographers, content creators, influencers, insert your ideal individual here. What matters is simply this, use whatever gifts or talents you have for the Glory of ONE… The ONE who created creativity itself. That’s why!
