Hi

Welcome to my site. My name is Wes. I am located on beautiful Vancouver Island. If you like my work I would love to hear from you.

My review of the “Russian Widelux” ~ Horizon 202 Swing Lens Camera.

The quest for panoramic film photography leaves you with very few options. You can spend north of $5000 dollars for the Prohibitively expensive Hasselblad XPAN or travel down the road of low quality or quirky alternatives. Because I don’t have 5 grand burning a hole in my pocket I’ve decided to go down the quirky road. After looking at a few of the options out there I landed on the Horizon camera system. The Horizon cameras were made in Russia from 1948 until just recently. They sport a 28mm f2.8 swing lens that pans across a 35mm frame to give you a panoramic style frame mimicking the look of cinema. There are a few swing style cameras available in the market. The most notable is the Japanese made Widelux, this camera sells for well over $1000 dollars on the used market and is know for its image quality and robustness. The other option available is the Noblex made in Germany which is also very expensive. I thought to myself that to being with I would spend no more than $200 to see if I even like the look of the images that come out of this style of camera. Below are a few frames from my second roll and I have to say, I’m hooked. Despite the bit of perspective distortion you get I love the look this camera delivers. I hope you enjoy the images below and please leave a comment if you like what you see.
